CRANE meetings with Cleft Clinical Excellence Networks 2022-23

In 2022, the CRANE Database project team developed their communications strategy to improve engagement with our key stakeholder groups. These include people born with a cleft and their family members, the healthcare professionals caring for them and the wider group of commissioners that support us.

The different healthcare professionals within each cleft service meet several times per year in dedicated clinical excellence networks (CENs). These meetings provide peer support for the health professionals within them, a forum to discuss new developments and treatment options and an opportunity to plan and undertake audit and research projects.

The CEN groups of the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland (CSGBI) include:

  • Paediatric dentistry
  • Clinical nurse specialists
  • Speech and language therapists
  • Clinical psychology
  • Restorative dentistry
  • ENT and audiology
  • Orthodontics
  • Surgery

By attending the CEN group meetings, held in October 2022 – April 2023, our aim was to learn what is important to each group, review sections of the annual report relevant to the CENs, facilitate conversations between CRANE and the CEN groups and improve our understanding of barriers to data collection.
